About the S.P.A.
The Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende, A.C. has been leading the charge in animal welfare since 1980. It is the only no-kill animal shelter for dogs and cats in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and houses as many as 100 animals (cats and dogs). The S.P.A.'s missions include helping to protect dogs and cats and avoid cruelty to them, spreading the word about improving pet care, curbing overpopulation, and working with others to accomplish these goals. We are a non-profit organization and do not receive any government support. We rely solely upon donations to keep our doors open and to provide food, care, and shelter for our resident animals.
What We Do
In existence since 1980, the Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende, A.C. (S.P.A.) is the oldest no-kill shelter for dogs and cats in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. It was created for the well-being of abandoned and homeless dogs and cats in San Miguel and its surroundings. It enthusiastically seeks permanent and loving homes for its resident animals (as many as 100 in total).
In addition, the S.P.A. has an on-site clinic which is open to the public. The clinic offers lower-cost medical care for pets owned by members of the community.
We have many goals at the S.P.A. We want to educate our community about the importance of taking care of their pets and giving them the health care they need, i.e., vaccinations and sterilization, and provide an economical means to satisfy these responsibilities. We would like to increase awareness and appreciation of animals so that others can enjoy the magic that comes from loving and owning a pet. Teaching others to be kind to and tolerant of animals is another one of our goals. Regarding our own S.P.A. animals, we are searching for permanent, loving homes for all of them. We also want to provide the best living conditions for our animals while they are at the S.P.A., waiting for their forever homes.
Please join us in supporting these goals. We’d love to have you volunteer! There are many different ways to do that. You can walk dogs, play with puppies, and cuddle with cats and kittens. You could help us with S.P.A. activities. Come up with ideas for fundraising and help us implement them. Have an idea for a community outreach program? Tell us about it! We’re all ears. We’d appreciate any help you have to offer.
You can also support the S.P.A. by donating supplies, supporting our fundraisers, and participating in our fundraising events. The S.P.A.'s only source of income is donations!
